Ron DeSantis' office. If you need to convince yourself that it will make a huge difference to attend UF go ahead it's your life, but if you don't get into UF it's not the end of the world They like to keep you on track for graduating on time, but if you stay a little longer to take extra courses I don't think they can stop you.
USF is well respected when it comes to medical research and is known outside of FL. I would say USF and UF would be the best options for pre-med and having better oppurtunities in the field. On the graduate level, most med students are working so hard just to pass med school they don't do a lot of additional research except very short items.
My D1 is a 3rd year med student now and an FSU biochemistry grad. USF has a nice med school, but I doubt undergrads do much research in it. They'd have to compete with all the med students, the residents, the researchers and other grad students for research opportunities. I'm almost positive that UF's funding goes mostly toward engineering too. The only time institutional GPA comparison really comes into play is if you go to a school notorious for difficulty or GPA padding.
You may find that you have a different calling. You are deciding between them for undergrad. To my knowledge only a couple of them actually got into med school- anywhere.
I have a close friend from high school that spent 3 years applying to med school before he was accepted. Lizard USF alum might come in here and tell you otherwise of course! At least for me, I just want you to consider how bad YOU really want it, and why. Why do you want it, how bad do you want it, and how hard are you going to fight for it?
Your honest answers to those questions are as good of a predictor as any of your chances of success moving forward. Or, just a single shot? Medical school is terribly expensive. You want to keep undergrad as cheap as you can. You may be too young to understand it now but unless it is absolutely YOUR passion…not that of your parents…it will be impossible to do. Many years ago when I went premed all it took was my second semester to realize that I did not have that kind of dedication and I bounced around until I did find my passion.
That is the advantage of going to a large university. The vast majority of all incoming Freshman will change their intended major at least once. There are distractions at just about any school you go to. If they are suggesting USF as it is close and they can keep an eye on you, then run to the farthest school you can find.
This is the time to let go of your children and let them succeed or fail…but most importantly grow and learn responsibility such as knowing when to study and when to party. As I told all of my children, where do you see yourself enjoying the next 4 years?
