What is the difference between anytime and business select

A Business Select fare earns 12 points per dollar, while Anytime and Wanna Get Away fares earn 10 and six points per dollar, respectively.

You can earn points on revenue tickets. You cannot earn points on nonrevenue travel, including reward and Companion Pass travel. Those who have a Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards credit card earn an additional two points for every dollar spent on Southwest flights.

Depending on routes and your travel day, the spread will vary. In a situation like that, it may make good sense to get a flexible, refundable ticket. Shelli Stein is a health and fitness entrepreneur who travels the world in search of culture, food, and fun!

At times you could check flight the same day and potentially receive a credit because the fare dropped. Just as a clarification, it lists it as unavailable. You make a god point, Chrissy.

Always good to know what price point and flight amenities are important to you and base decisions on what you value. Thanks for reading and taking the time to add your thoughts. Everyone was so friendly and I love that there are no hidden costs like other airlines!

It would be the 1 airline! Thanks for chipping in with your recent flight experience, Elizabeth! What airline is your go-to airline? Flying from Las Vegas to Buffalo. We have booked these tickets 6 months prior to our departure.

We are a family of four. Will we be able to all sit together? Instead, 24 hours before your flight you can go online and check-in. Then each of you will be given a boarding number and group. Seating is open and unassigned. No guarantees about you all sitting together BUT I do find people on SWA flights to be pretty easy going about switching seats if you ask because you want your family together.

Hope that helps explain how seating on SWA flights work. Thanks for reading! Have flown SW about 15 times to California and never disappoint. Using points is a breeze to change not chancel flights. If you are changing a flight due to decrease in price, do not cancel, but change. Just remember to always check your boarding pass to make sure if you have precheck that it shows up on the boarding pass. The next time we used the Skycab and he checked to make sure.

He had to go back in the long line for regular security while she got right threw in Precheck line. Good reminders, Gail. Thank you. Very true about checking boarding passes. Checking to make sure they have the accurate information on them is a great habit, no matter the airline.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to add to the conversation. Why would that cost more? Seems to good to be true. Hi Ron, I think you may be confusing terminology here. They all come with restrictions and differing prices. Business Select and Anytime are full fare tickets, so standby is available on those fare classes only. Wanna Get Away fares can be a great deal.

Just make sure you know what the fare class limitations are. Hope this helps! Hi Belinda, It would help me answer your question if I knew the ages of the children. Also, there is another article I wrote that might help you better understand how to get seats on Southwest. Hi Paula, Good questions. No,a Wanna Get Away fare is not a standby ticket.

Please read the reply below where I answered Ron about this question. I hope my reply to him helps you sort through the terminology. I will need a wheelchair to get through the airports. Does this effect my boarding? Hi Darlene, I would check ahead of time with Southwest either online or by calling so you can clarify your special needs situation. I just booked through Southwest for the first time using the Wanna Get Away. I rarely ever fly so hoping I made the right choice for my husband and I.

I was going to purchase travel insurance afterwards, but not sure that would help with this sort of ticket arrangement. Should I go ahead and purchase anyway or would that be just a waste of money?

HI Barbara, Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. You ask a good question. I can only speak from my own experience.

If you cancel your SWA flight, you can still use the funds within 12 months. If I purchase a Wanna get Away ticket to fly non stop to Austin from Lubbock will I still get to choose my boarding class 24 hours in advance? Hi Shelli, Sorry I read all the comments but still a little confused. I need to make sure she will not get bumped off this flight as she will be trying to get to a location at a certain time.

Wanna Get Away flights If you have to cancel a flight, you can use your canceled funds on future travel for up to 12 months from the initial booking date. Southwest offers Family Boarding after the A group, but before the B groups, for any families traveling with children 6 and under who are in the B or C groups.

Obviously, if you have an A boarding pass then you will board ahead of this offer. Re: Seating Size With the exception of exit row and bulkhead leg room, virtually all seats on a SW jet are the same. With that said, you can still get extra comfort with Business Select tickets by finding seats with extra leg room. Southwest primarily operates s and s.

You can find out more information about the different types of seats in my Tips for Flying Southwest. So you can head straight to the emergency exit rows and snag the seats with the most leg room. And How to Get Them. Keep in mind that upgrade availability is limited. To upgrade, simply approach the ticket counter or desk at the departure gate and inquire about the upgrade. Sometimes they make you upgrade at the gate reserved for your flight but other times you can do it at check-in or at another Southwest gate.

The new Southwest Priority Credit Card now offers up to four upgrades to priority boarding A1 to A15 based on availability per year. Southwest Anytime fares are the mid-tier fares which just like Business Select, are fully refundable. The difference between these fares is that Business Select comes with extra perks. With Business Select you get the priority boarding, the free premium drink, and get to earn 12 Rapid Rewards per dollar spent versus the 10 Rapid Rewards per dollar spent that you get with Anytime fares.

Often the price difference between Business Select and Anytime fares is quite small. You could then subtract the cash value of those point earnings from the original price to see what your cost would be with point earnings considered.

Read up on how much Southwest points are worth. When it comes to Wanna Get Away fares, the two major differences are 1 the refund policy and 2 price.

However, you can credit that amount spent to a flight taking place in the next 12 months. Meanwhile, as already stated, Business Select fares are truly refundable since you can get your cash back in your pocket. That would not even be close to worth it. Why wouldn't I want to choose the lowest priced ticket? Go to Solution. The Wanna Get Away is non refundable and you earn 6 rapid rewards points per dollar. If you should want to take an earlier flight on the day of departure you would need to upgrade your ticket to the anytime fare.

You will also get to be one of the first 15 people to board after pre boards A range. So the biggest difference is the wanna get away is the most restrictive fare and you earn the fewest points while the business select is most flexible with most points earned and the benefit of being in the A1-A15 boarding.

When booking a flight you can also click on the names of the fare types at the top of the columns with the prices in them to see this chart which shows the benefits of each fare.

Thank you for the simple explanation. I had searched the website for it but couldn't find anything. I haven't flown in years! All so new and different. If you join Southwest's frequent flyer program you will earn Rapid Rewards points which is based on the fair type you book and the cost of the ticket the points do not expire so even if you only travel once or twice a year they will still be good the next time you fly Southwest.
